Hope you can participate in the Zoom meeting Tuesday, Oct. 27 at 7:15 p.m.when Street Photographer James Ip will speak. Here is his artist statement...As a former journalist and communications professional for the past few decades, I have used words to tell stories. Now, as a photographer, I make images to convey ideas and emotions.I have always had an “artist” influence - I took after my late father, who was both a fine and commercial artist, and was also a member of a camera club in Toronto’s Chinese Community in the '70s and ‘80s.I didn’t develop my own interest in photography until the past few years, when I purchased by first DSLR five years ago. I didn’t discover street photography until 2017 when someone commented on one of his photos online and began researching online.I’m lucky to be living in a large city like Toronto where there are lots of opportunities for this style of photography. My favourite spots are Union Station and Yonge-Dundas Square.
